What is Mawlid-al-Nabi?

Mawlid-al-Nabi marks the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) who was introduced to the universe on the 12th night of the month of Rabi' al-Awwal, which fell on a Monday.

When is Mawlid-al-Nabi?

Mawlid-al-Nabi is celebrated annually on the 12th night of Rabi' al-Awwal, the third month in the Islamic Hijri calendar. This year, Mawlid Kandil, which is the first of the five sacred nights of the Hijri year, will be observed on the evening of September 14th.

Acts of Worship on Mawlid-al-Nabi

During this blessed month, it is highly recommended to send abundant blessings and salutations (salawat) upon the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and to recite specific prayers such as Salat an-Nariyah, Salat al-Munjiyah, and Salat al-Fathiyah. To fully benefit from the spiritual richness of this night, it is also advisable to perform the Tasbih prayer and the Hatm al-Anbiya. The intention for the Tasbih prayer is as follows: "O Allah! I intend to perform the Tasbih prayer for Your pleasure. O Lord! For the sake of Your Beloved, the crown of our heads, Rasul al-Zishan, whom You have illuminated the worlds with on this night, and for the sake of the mysteries of this night, grant me, Your humble servant, Your forgiveness and Divine grace." With this intention, the prayer begins with "Allahu Akbar."

What are Mawlid-al-Nabi?

In Islam, certain nights hold special significance and are marked by increased worship and devotion; these are known as Kandil nights. Scholars have noted that acts of worship performed on these nights, when significant and blessed events occurred in Islamic history, are rewarded more generously than on ordinary days. There are five such sacred nights:

1. Mawlid-al-Nabi: Commemorates the night our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was born.

2. Raghaib Night: Marks the night when Lady Amina realized she was pregnant with the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

3. Shab-e Mi'raj: Celebrates the miraculous night journey (Isra and Mi'raj) of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to the heavens and beyond by the invitation and power of Allah.

4. Night of Bara'ah: The night when the Qur'an was sent down from the preserved tablet (al-Lawh al-Mahfuz) to the lowest heaven. It is also a night when the destinies of all individuals are decreed for the coming year, and Muslims seek forgiveness and divine blessings.

5. Laylat al-Qadr: Known as the Night of Power, it marks the commencement of the Qur'an's revelation to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
