In general, Adaq (Nazr) refers to a person's promise to Allah for something they wish to happen in exchange for performing a certain act. If their wish is granted, they are obligated to fulfill the promise. When a person vows to offer a qurbani upon the fulfillment of their wish, this qurbani is referred to as an Adaq (Nazr) Qurbani.
The conditions for performing Adaq Qurbani are as follows:
Intention: To perform an Adaq Qurbani, one must first have the intention to offer the qurbani for Allah's pleasure after their vow has become binding. By making this intention, the obligation is fulfilled.
Eligible Animal: The animal used for the Adaq Qurbani must be one of the permissible types (cow, buffalo, camel, sheep, or goat). Additionally, the animal must be healthy and meet the criteria for qurbani.
Halal Slaughter: The animal must be slaughtered in accordance with halal methods, including reciting "Bismillah" and "Allahu Akbar."
Timing: The Adaq Qurbani should be performed at the first opportunity after the conditions of the vow are fulfilled. It is also permissible to perform the qurbani before the condition is met, which is a recommended practice by scholars.
All types of qurbani, including obligatory (vacip) and voluntary (nafl), can be performed through proxy. A person can authorize another individual or organization to perform their Adaq Qurbani. This authorization can be given verbally or in writing. Proxy qurbani is a convenient option for individuals who are unable to personally perform the slaughter. It is important to choose a trustworthy person or institution that ensures the qurbani is carried out according to Islamic guidelines.

Adaq Qurbani becomes obligatory as soon as the condition of the vow is fulfilled and should be performed at the earliest opportunity. If a specific time is mentioned in the vow, the qurbani must be performed within that time frame. For example, if a person vows to perform Adaq Qurbani during Ramadan, they must ensure it is completed before the end of the month. The timing of the Adaq Qurbani may vary based on personal circumstances and regional conditions, but once the vow's condition is fulfilled, the qurbani becomes a binding obligation.
According to Islamic teachings, the meat of Adaq Qurbani cannot be consumed by the following individuals:
It is most virtuous to share the meat with those in need. According to the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), it is recommended to distribute two-thirds of the qurbani meat and keep one-third for oneself. However, in the case of Adaq Qurbani, the entire meat must be donated or given to those outside the immediate family of the person who made the vow.
After performing Adaq Qurbani, the person may pray two rak'ahs of gratitude prayer to thank Allah. This prayer is not obligatory but is a way to express gratitude for fulfilling their vow and worshiping Allah with their wealth.
Making a vow (Adaq) is permissible in Islam. It is not mandatory to make a vow, but if one does and the condition is fulfilled, it becomes obligatory to carry out the vow. Therefore, vows should be taken seriously, whether they involve a qurbani or another halal act. When fulfilling a vow, one must strictly adhere to Islamic principles. Offering qurbani as a vow is a way to seek Allah’s pleasure and use it as a means for attaining heartfelt wishes. Qurbani is considered a source of spiritual and material blessings.
At Qurban.UK, we distribute Adaq, Aqiqah, Shifa, Shukr, and other voluntary qurbani donations throughout the year in various parts of the world, from Africa to Asia. During Eid al-Adha, we also assist Muslims in performing obligatory qurbani. All sacrificed animals are distributed to needy individuals, orphans, and students in the regions where the qurbani is performed. Upon request, we provide donors with thank-you videos from the beneficiaries, such as students receiving their qurbani meat.
We distribute the meat from donated qurbani to orphans and students in the regions where the qurbani is performed. If donors wish, they can also contribute additional funds to cover other costs associated with preparing a hot meal using their qurbani meat. We ensure transparency by providing a video of the meal being prepared and distributed in the name of the donor. At Qurban.UK, we work to ensure that your donations are delivered with integrity and clarity, offering peace of mind to our donors.
