What is Aqiqah Qurbani?
The hair on a newborn's head is called "aqiqah", and the qurbani offered in gratitude to Allah for the child is called "Aqiqah Qurbani." Aqiqah qurbani is performed to celebrate the child's birth and as a prayer for their health, wellbeing, and prosperity throughout life.
“Our Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (saw)
performed an aqiqah qurbani for himself
after he was given the responsibility of prophethood.”
When is Aqiqah Qurbani Performed?
There is no fixed time for performing aqiqah qurbani, unlike wajib qurbani or time-specific adaq/nazr qurbani. However, it is recommended to perform it on the seventh day after the child's birth. If it cannot be performed on that day, it can be done at any other time. A person whose aqiqah qurbani was not performed may also perform it for themselves.
How Many Aqiqah Qurbanis Are Performed?
Aqiqah qurbani is generally performed as two qurbanis for male children and one qurbani for female children. For those who cannot afford two qurbanis for a male child, offering one qurbani for both male and female children is also acceptable. The primary intention is to acknowledge both children as great blessings and express gratitude to Allah through the qurbani.
What Are the Conditions for Aqiqah Qurbani?
Conditions to be observed while performing aqiqah qurbani:
Animal for Qurbani: The aqiqah qurbani must be from animals that are permissible for qurbani (cow, buffalo, camel, sheep, goat). The animal must also be healthy and meet the qurbani requirements.
Halal Slaughter: As with all qurbanis, the slaughter must comply with halal practices. The qurbani should be performed with "Bismillah and Takbir."
Time of Slaughter: Aqiqah qurbani can be performed anytime after the child is born. However, the seventh day is preferred.
Intention: The intention for aqiqah qurbani should primarily be to seek Allah's pleasure and express gratitude. Prayers for the child's health, wellbeing, and blessings in their life may also accompany the qurbani. The slaughter must be performed with "Bismillah and Takbir."

I found this site while researching for our son’s birth. We registered for the seventh day after the birth and had two qurbans slaughtered. We are very grateful.
